CLASS TITLE: SCHOOL CLERK
BASIC FUNCTION:
Perform a variety of clerical, record-keeping and student service functions at an assigned school.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: (E=Essential Duty)
Individual positions may not perform all of the duties listed nor do these examples include all responsibilities of positions in this class.
Maintain students' attendance records. E
Issue absence and tardy slips; issue permits to leave school. E
Prepare and clear daily absence lists. E
Send out call slips to students. E
Answer telephones and take messages; relieve switchboard. E
Type suspensions, cut notices and letters to parents. E
Maintain locator card files. E
Collect monies and fees from students; issue receipts; make refunds; maintain files. E
Issue lockers. E
Compile and type daily bulletins; type bulletins, letters, memoranda, forms and requisitions. E
Make cash deposits, distribute checks, run monthly cash reports. E
Issue lunch cards and lunch charges; maintain records. E
Inventory and order office supplies. E
Maintain schedules and accounts for various sports. E
Receive and distribute mail. E
Answer students' questions. E
Process program changes. E
Update records and files. E
Prepare forms for data processing. E
Telephone students' homes to verify reasons for absences as needed.
Train and review work of student assistants as assigned.
Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
ABILITY TO:
Learn, interpret, apply and explain policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
Compare names and numbers rapidly and accurately.
Perform clerical work with speed and accuracy.
Meet the public effectively.
Train student assistants.
Operate a variety of office machines.
Type at 45 words net per minute from clear copy.
Work cooperatively with others.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by course work in typing and office skills and previous clerical experience.

Office environment.
Constant interruptions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office equipment.
Sitting for extended periods of time.
Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to maintain and retrieve files.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS: The following MUST be attached to application on or before the deadline:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent OR Associate's Degree OR Bachelor's Degree OR Higher Education Degree
AND - Typing Certificate for 45 words net per minute from clear copy.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/CERTIFICATES: ATTACH TO APPLICATION per district standard: current typing certificate (within last 6 months) for 45 NWPM (5 minute test with 5 or less errors). Original typing certificate must be verified.
Internet certificates are not acceptable. A practical job skills test may be administered as part of the interview process. If selected for the position, out-of-district applicants must be T.B tested and fingerprinted.
