Job Summary
Under direct and indirect supervision of Practice Manager and Clinical Manager. Assesses, plans, provides, and evaluates IVF and REI procedures. Works cooperatively to complete daily schedule of procedures. Position requires taking rotation of On-Call duties. Exercises analytical judgement on work to be performed in the IVF lab and the REI nursing area.

Accountabilities
- PATIENT ASSESSMENT- Completes pre-procedure assessment which includes: assessment of the patient's medical and surgical history, ASA classification, NPO status, and sedation plan. Reports and documents findings. Gathers pertinent records needed for procedures such as: History and Physical, Lab reports, and Medication Record. Establishes a nursing diagnosis and plan of care. Anticipates and/or predicts changes and modifies any care delivered to best meet the needs of the patient. Incorporates patient preferences, concerns, and special needs into daily work schedule. Establishes overt/covert needs as well as anticipated needs related to the diagnosis. Monitors patient through out the stay in the IVF Lab. Utilizes ALDRETE score consistently. Maintains an advanced knowledge base of disease entities, medications and other treatment options specific to REI. Performs phone triage accurately by involving physicians when needed but uses critical thinking skills and advanced knowledge to handle the majority of concerns. Evaluates effectiveness of care and makes changes according to predetermined care plan or after physician consultation. 25%
- PROCEDURE- Maintains safe working environment. Knows the location and use of emergency equipment. Demonstrated competency in IV skills. Performs treatment procedures and physician orders. Operates applicable hospital equipment, as well as IVF procedure equipment. Performs proper body mechanics. Takes immediate and appropriate action in life threatening emergencies and/ or crisis situations. Administers IV sedation and other drugs as directed by the physician. Knowledgeable of all drugs used during procedures and emergencies as well as contraindications and side effects. Employs proper hospital emergency procedures. Assures specimens are collected, handled properly, correctly labeled, and submitted to the appropriate department. 20%
- COMMUNICATION- Communicates appropriately with IVF and ART personnel, medical staff, patients, families, outside resources, and others verbally and in writing. Is discrete in the use of confidential information. Interprets rationale for diagnostic modalities used on patients to physician and or manager. Reports errors/incidents/problems to appropriate personnel promptly and documents correctly. Ensures physician is informed of pertinent patient information. 10%
- DOCUMENTATION- Follows Prisma Health guidelines for nursing documentation. Ensures all applicable permits/consents are correct. Performs procedural documentation per REI department policy. Performs sedation documentation per Prisma Health policy. Completes all Prisma Health forms competently. Creates and maintains IVF patient records and charts. Documents procedures and patient care which reflect treatment. Documents education for patients and families. 10%
- EDUCATION- Ensures that the patient understands and consents to procedures to be performed. Performs education to increase patient and family knowledge. Ensures that the patient and family are well informed; fulling explaining time frames to family members. Implements and/or assists in patient education regarding procedures and health maintenance. This may include 1:1 or classroom teaching sessions. Act as a resource person to other levels of staff. Maintains CPR/ACLS certification. Attends and participates in departmental staff meetings. Assumes responsibility for own continuing education, both formal and informal. Participates in development of self and other staff members. Attends scheduled departmental in-services. 10%
- ORGANIZATIONAL SKILL- Demonstrates organizational ability by using time/equipment/resources effectively. Establishes daily procedure schedule in accordance with patient/procedure priorities and physician preferences. Recognizes/analyzes/solves problems. Anticipates needs of physicians. Ensures that the daily schedule is carried out through individual or cooperative efforts. Exercises analytical judgement on work to be done. 10%
- ON CALL- Performs call rotations. Performs procedures effectively during call back. Exercises appropriate judgement in utilizing other resources during call back. Accountable for appropriate share of call time proportionate to staff size. 10%
- PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT- Actively participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives. Actively participates in process improvement for Prisma Health. 5%
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
Minimum Requirements
- Associate's Degree - Nursing
- 1 year - Clinical Nursing Experience within Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility
