Class Title:

Maintenance & Operations Technician

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Under limited direction, to perform a wide variety of technical tasks and execute complex and responsible clerical work of more than average difficulty; and to do related work as required consistent with the job description.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Directly responsible to Director, Maintenance, Operations and Transportation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs a wide variety of complex work utilizing computer programs, and preparation of materials for print with accuracy and speed, including checking, and recording information

Processes applications for and collects transportation fees and school impact fees; prepares letters, reports, and memoranda, including material of a confidential nature

Operates various computer terminals and utilizes specialized computer programs and word processing programs to compile and record information for preparing and maintaining accurate and complete records and reports

Computing statistical data and maintaining file systems

Provides information and assistance to district personnel and/or the general public regarding services provided by the district or refers persons to another source of information

Operates a typewriter, copier, and various other equipment

Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

Understands and carries out oral and written directions

Makes arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy

Analyzes situations and adopts an effective course of action.

On an as needed basis performs limited dispatching duties such as operating a two way radio or phone device, communicates with bus drivers and school sites when dispatcher is off duty.

DEMONSTRATED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.

Operation of a computer and assigned software.

Terminology, processes and operations of assigned office or program.

Record-keeping and filing techniques. Telephone techniques and etiquette.

Basic research methods and report preparation techniques.

Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.

Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

Applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations.

Oral and written communication skills.

Basic budgeting practices regarding monitoring and control.

Basic math.

Proper methods of storing equipment, materials, and supplies.

ABILITY TO:

Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and administration.

Interpret, apply and explain applicable laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Answer telephones and greet the public courteously.

Maintain records, logs and files.

Learn principles of training and providing work direction and guidance to others.

Compile, assemble, verify and prepare data for records and reports.

Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.

Compose correspondence and written materials independently.

Work independently with little direction.

Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

Meet schedules and time lines.

Plan and organize work.

Add, subtract, multiply and divide quickly and accurately.

Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer and assigned software.

Be able to multitask.

Maintain consistent, punctual and regular attendance.

Sit or stand for extended periods of time.

Read a variety of materials.

Bend at the waist, kneel or crouch to file materials.

QUALIFICATIONS

Type at a rate of thirty-five (35) words per minutep

Pass qualifying tests.

EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years of increasingly responsible clerical experience, preferably including at least one (1) year of experience in a school district.
