GENERAL SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Program Manager of Mental Health, the Life Skills Coach will serve as a positive role model for the Mather Community Campus Adolfo Youth (“youth”) to observe and learn socially appropriate values, attitudes and behaviors. This individual will work with the Case Managers, Educational and Employment Specialist, Housing Specialist and other staff to help the youth overcome barriers hindering them from reaching self-sufficiency. This position is committed to improving the quality of services provided by seeking input from clients, employees and stakeholders to ensure service delivery and accessibility is equitable to all persons served. The Life Skills Coach is a full time, nonexempt position eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance; 403 (b) retirement plan; paid holidays, and Paid Time Off. This position is employed by Goodwill Industries® of Sacramento Valley and Northern Nevada, Inc., through Next Move Homeless Services, Inc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Administers
• Administers classes and groups that will focus on essential life skills such as: nutrition, budgeting, and physical health.
• Assists youth with parent education, and parental classes that will provide the necessary support for parenting youth.
• Oversees all youth, providing a safe environment for learning skills necessary for independence.
• Works collaboratively with staff and youth to initiate positive group interactions when possible.
• Uses appropriate judgment to handle youth issues and when necessary uses de-escalation techniques and other strategies.
• Facilitates short and long-term projects that create individualized ownership for each youth.
• Familiarizes themselves with the youth’s strengths and weaknesses in leisure skills, socialization, motor function, and physical condition.
• Plans activities to complement youth's needs.
• Creates individual development plans for youth to provide progressive and constructive outcomes.
• Reports and submits any crisis or critical incident using the appropriate mechanism.
• Helps to identify barriers for youth served by sharing case notes with the Program Manager of Mental Health.
• Helps connect youth to outside services that would help with integrating back into society.
• Tracks and captures success stories to share with funders and other stakeholders as appropriate. Complete educational and vocational assessments with participants.
• Participate in agency, program, and community meetings as appropriate.
Other Duties/Responsibilities
• Ensures compliance with all Next Move Homeless Services and Goodwill Industries Sacramento Valley Northern Nevada policies, CARF standards, and safety and security regulations.
• Attends trainings and staff meetings, as required.
• Completes reports as directed by the Program Manager.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Basic Qualifications of the Role:
• Must have sound judgement and act as a role model for the youth.
• Experience working with the homeless population and knowledge of foster youth’s unique needs.
• Exhibit a high degree of professionalism.
• Must not present a direct threat to the safety and health of self, others or property.
• Must be able to perform essential functions of this job description with or without reasonable accommodation.
• A strong commitment to the program and the mission of the organization.
• Extensive experience with strengths-based case management.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions; and effectively present information to management and/or public groups.
• Proven ability to represent the interests of the organization, interact effectively with a diverse population, and be comfortable building successful collaborative relationships with youth, staff and other stakeholders.
• High level of energy and good sense of humor with the capacity for extraordinary time and effort demands.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
• No record or disclosure of criminal conviction that indicates an ongoing tendency toward theft, violence, dishonesty, deceit, drug manufacture or sale, moral turpitude, or predatory behavior.
• Must provide proof of identification and eligibility to work in the United States of America.
• Must pass a drug and background screening.
