The United Farm Workers is looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Internal Organizer to join the Farm Worker Movement in the Madera area.

The Internal Organizer's role involves organizing and advocating for farm workers, ensuring they have UFW representation through collective bargaining agreements. This position focuses on recruiting and developing worker leaders to establish a union within their workplace. Under the guidance of the Regional Director and/or Organizing Coordinator, the Internal Organizer will plan, lead, and manage UFW membership growth, renewal, and benefits programs. This is not a typical office jo b.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct personal visits, house meetings, and general meetings
  • Facilitate the creation of a worker board and steward structure - Participate in and lead planning efforts
  • Build relationships within the local community - Implement programs to encourage member involvement
  • Oversee the issue resolution process at assigned companies - Collaborate with worker boards and negotiating committees to prepare for negotiations
  • Maintain and document worker information in a database (VAN) QUALIFICATIONS

POSITION:

  • Previous organizing experience is preferred but not mandatory. - Willingness to travel and work long, irregular hours, including weekends, early mornings, and evenings as needed.
  • Basic computer skills are preferred (Microsoft Office, Internet).
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups under tight deadlines.
  • Strong dedication to the mission of the Farm Worker Movement.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION

  • Prior organizing experience is required.
  • Ability to work outside of an office environment, travel, work long and irregular hours, including weekends, early mornings and evenings as needed.
  • Strong computer & technology skills preferred (Microsoft Office, Excel, Google Docs, PowerPoint, Internet, Social Media).
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups, under challenging deadlines.
  • Strong commitment to the mission of the Farm Worker Movement.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English, both oral and written.
  • A valid driver’s license, current passport and a reliable car is required.

PROFICIENCY:

  • Spanish and English, both spoken and written.

COMPENSATION :

  • A benefits package that includes family medical, dental, vision, pension, 401k (employee contributions), 5 paid sick days, 11 paid holidays, and paid vacations.
