Job Title: Environmental Compliance Coordinator
FLSA Classification: Hourly - Non-Exempt

Reports To: Compliance Manager
OVERVIEW: The Environmental Compliance Coordinator collaborates with external partners to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations across all business entities. This role involves managing environmental compliance programs, including underground storage tanks (UST), aboveground storage tanks (AST), hazardous materials, hazardous waste, spill prevention (SPCC), and stormwater management (SWPPP). Key responsibilities include planning and coordinating compliance activities, overseeing inspections and testing by external service providers, maintaining accurate records, and submitting required regulatory reports.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and highly organized, with strong project management skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, learn quickly, and collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
Main Responsibilities - Coordinate inspections, testing, and maintenance of regulated equipment and systems with external service providers to ensure timely completion of regulatory requirements.
- Maintain an up-to-date compliance calendar, including inspections, testing, permit renewals, and regulatory deadlines.
- Collaborate with external partners and site contacts to plan and manage compliance activities related to UST, AST, hazardous materials, hazardous waste, stormwater, and spill prevention programs.
- Track permits, routine inspections, testing, and repairs to ensure they are completed on schedule.
- Ensure proper documentation of inspections, testing, repairs, and corrective actions.
- File compliance reports with regulatory agencies (e.g., CUPA, Air Quality Districts, DTSC, EPA) as required.
- Maintain well-organized records of all compliance activities for audits and regulatory reviews.
- Conduct periodic internal audits of compliance activities and recordkeeping practices.
- Communicate written policies and procedures across the organization to ensure a consistent approach to environmental compliance. Educate site personnel on internal recordkeeping practices.
- Assist external partners and inspectors by providing regulatory documentation and support during inspections.
- Identify and investigate compliance issues requiring remediation, manage corrective actions, and track issue resolution.
- Open and manage work orders through the ticketing platform in response to identified compliance issues.

- Bachelor's degree in environmental science or a related field is preferred but not required. Equivalent experience in environmental compliance or UST/AST program management will be considered.
- 3+ years of experience in environmental compliance, UST/AST program management, or a similar role.
- Familiarity with general environmental compliance programs, including UST/AST regulations, hazardous materials management, hazardous waste handling, and reporting requirements (CUPA, Air Quality District, DTSC, EPA).
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Experience coordinating with third-party service providers and maintaining compliance documentation.
- High attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in documentation and reporting.
- Ability to quickly learn new processes and absorb technical information. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and environmental compliance management systems.
- Strong initiative, drive, and tenacity, with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and build positive relationships with internal teams, external partners, vendors, and contractors.
