OTTAWA COUNTY POSITION POSTING

Job Title: Radiological Programs Coordinator

Reports to: Director, Ottawa County Emergency Management Agency

Job Status: Classified FLSA Non-Exempt Full Time

Wage Range: $26.45/hr - $27.40/hr

Job Summary:

The Radiological Programs Coordinator is responsible for the overall radiological emergency preparedness program for the Ottawa County Emergency Management Agency (EMA).

Essential Knowledge, Abilities and Skills, Education

1. Post-secondary education with coursework in risk management, safety, public administration, communications, education or related fields or a minimum of four (4) years’ experience

2. General understanding of nuclear power and radiation

3. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

4. Identify problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

5. Develop and maintain effective relationships with associates, elected officials, department heads and the general public

6. Exercise sound judgment

7. Prepare and maintain accurate documentation

8. Handle sensitive inquiries from county agencies and the general public

9. Produce clear, meaningful and concise reports

10. Read and understand complex technical materials

11. Use effective research methods in gathering information; utilize computer/software relevant to the position

12. Valid Ohio driver’s license and insurable under County’s Insurance.

13. Must take the State Oath as identified in ORC Sec. 5502.34

Essential Functions of the Position

1. Advises the Ottawa County EMA Director on all matters pertaining to radiological emergency response/preparedness

2. In cooperation with Ohio EMA and Davis-Besse personnel, develops, evaluates, modifies, coordinates and conducts training activities in support of the Ottawa County Radiological Emergency Response Plan (RERP) and supporting Suggested Operating Guidelines (SOGs)

3. Assists with radiological program training in Lucas, Erie, and Sandusky Counties as needed

4. Assists in the development, evaluation and modification of the County RERP and SOGs

5. Assists in development of scenarios for drills/exercises

6. Participates in drills and exercises

7. Tests communication equipment monthly

8. Provides assistance as needed during emergencies, exercises and drills

9. Participates in public information/education activities

10. Recruits EMA volunteers

Job Location/Hours of Work

Work is primarily at the Courthouse daily from Monday through Friday. Travel is required within and outside Ottawa County for meetings, incident response, and training as job duties require. Some work could include evenings and weekends for training and response. Position is part of County’s emergency response program and could be requested to respond 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Physical Requirements

This position involves occasional risks and duties that require special safety precautions. Such duties include, but are not limited to, exposure to severe weather conditions and hazardous chemicals.
