About the Role
The Company is seeking a Board Member to join its prestigious organization. The ideal candidate will have a background in science, particularly within an academic research setting, and a deep commitment to the mission of the Foundation. This role is pivotal in providing strategic direction, approving budgets, and ensuring the Foundation's activities align with its mission of promoting research in chemistry and life sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to have a nuanced understanding of scientific research, a high level of integrity, and the ability to work effectively in a team to make consensus decisions. Experience in nonprofit or public board governance, as well as a strong background in strategic planning and budget management, is highly preferred. As a Board Member, the individual will be part of a diverse and inclusive leadership team, actively working to advance justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in the scientific community. Responsibilities include overseeing the Foundation's operations, staying informed about its activities, and promoting its mission within the community. The role demands a low-ego professional with a track record of success, a high expectation for performance, and a willingness to engage in shared leadership. The Board meets quarterly, and while in-person attendance is preferred, virtual participation is also an option. The position is voluntary, with no direct compensation, but the Foundation does offer reimbursement for travel costs and opportunities for members to engage in philanthropic gift programs.
