Student Success Advocate (Mentor) Bilingual
Location: Maryland
Reports to: Student Support Advisor
Schedule: Monday - Friday
Salary: $25- $30 per hour starting salary
The Position.
Our Student Success Advocates (SSAs) provide mentoring and Social Emotional Learning in small groups for K-12 students. Mentoring is a trusting relationship between a young person and a caring adult who provides help to the young person as they go through life, offering guidance and support. A successful candidate demonstrates a passion and commitment to the success of students. The candidate must be punctual, consistent, take initiative, results-driven, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. SSAs serve as a role model, advisor, advocate and ally. Bridging the gap between home and school, the SSAs complete home visits to students’ homes on a regular basis for the school.
The Role.
By joining Concentric Educational Solutions, SSA’s will have the ability to create a positive environment for students through identifying and implementing appropriate Social Emotional Learning lessons, creating individualized action plans, assessing student performance and using observation and data analysis to create subsequent strategies aimed at improving student achievement. In addition, conduct in-person home visits and act as a liaison between the family and school-based personnel. Specific responsibilities include:
Cultivate a teacher and pupil relationship
Facilitate mentoring instruction to the student(s) in a variety of individual and group activities for the purpose of reinforcing instructional and/or Social Emotional Learning objectives and ensuring the student’s access to his/her least restrictive environment.
Communicates student meeting outcomes and assists with the development of intervention strategies in the use of equipment, learning objects, and materials needed for student success.
Make appropriate referrals to other campus and community resources as needed.
Gather, analyze, and maintain data and notes to determine student progress towards attendance, academics, and behavior.
Empowering students to resolve current issues and to develop coping strategies for the future.
Provide a model for a healthy, trusting relationship through clear communication and setting appropriate boundaries.
Acknowledging students’ strengths, talents and gifts and encouraging them to find ways to use them.
Be an active listener and offer support and encouragement when appropriate.
Engage in activities outside of the home to help expose youth to new opportunities and experiences.
Maintain confidentiality of participants.
Accurately document interactions and sessions with students to portray student progress when working with the program
Performs other duties as assigned
Primary job duties and responsibilities when completing home visits :
Document home visit outcomes in the Home Visit and Student Engagement App
Use communication and relationship-building skills to connect with families
Share information about school and district-based resources
Provide information about important dates and deadlines, any missing documentation (i.e. immunization records), and/or deliver materials (welcome packets, devices, food, etc.).
Attend pre and post-home visit meetings with schools and districts as needed
Performs other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Competencies.
Associates Degree required. A Bachelor's degree is a plus
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience interacting with a diverse group of people
Prior experience working with schools and children as a mentor, tutor, child/student advocate and/or teacher.
Experience with Google Suite (docs, form, slides, sheet, etc.)
Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
Must be able to complete an in person fingerprinting and must pass a background check
Access to reliable transportation is required
Ability to work onsite during the established school day and calendar year
Willingness to provide emotional, social, and practical support within limits.
Knowledge of one’s boundaries and ability to set limits with others.
Recognition that all people have strengths and they need to discover and use them.
Must have a cell phone and/or tablet with internet access
Must be able to work evenings (no later than 8:00 PM) and weekends
Able to work a minimum of 25 hrs. per week
Reliable and punctual person
Valid driver’s license
Clean driving record
Valid car insurance
Preferred Qualifications include:
Prior experience with documentation and note-taking (Behavioral Specialist, Social Worker, Probation Officer)
Prior experience with conducting home or site visits (Social Worker, Probation Officer)
